The Somerville Police Department may be getting their own police boat in the very near future.

Since now that Assembly Row has been developed, Somerville’s long ignored harbor is now finally in use.

With thousands of new residents, people dining and shopping at Assembly Row on a daily basis, a new police marine unit division may be necessary to protect our citizens from any accidental incidents that could occur along the Mystic River.

Somerville’s harbor begins at the Amelia Earhart Dam and stretches all the way down beyond the boathouse along the Mystic by shore drive.

The Somerville Police Boat once purchased and commissioned is said that it will be manned by the Somerville Police Department and it will be docked at the Winter Hill Yacht Club in Somerville in a complementary boat slip donated by the members of the yacht club.
