Former Acting Chief of Police Charlie Femino announced his intention to retire effective at the
end of this month in order to accept a post at Endicott College located in Beverly, Massachusetts as the Director/Chief of Public Safety. In his new role he will lead the college’s 22 officer Campus Safety Department, as well as coordinate any emergency preparedness efforts.

Femino, who last week returned to his Captain’s role as Chief of Detectives, has served with the Somerville Police Department for over 30 years. Since 1984 Femino rose through the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, and Captain. He has performed in a variety of supervisory and managerial positions including Chief of Detectives, Deputy Chief of Police in 2010, and most recently as Interim Chief of Police during the past 10 months while the search for a permanent Police Chief was completed.

“I am extremely grateful to the Mayor, the Board of Aldermen, and the men and women of the Somerville Police Department for their support through the years. This was an unsolicited and unexpected opportunity that came my way at a great time in my career. It is a bittersweet moment. I will always remember my friends and the many experiences that have impacted my life here in Somerville,” said Femino.

Somerville Police Chief David Fallon said in an interview “I have mixed emotions about this announcement Chief Femino is a cherished colleague but the announcement speaks volumes about the leaders being developed within the ranks of the Somerville Police Department.”
