Dear Billy T and Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line,
The three unit building adjacent to mine is under the oversight of a property management company that, unfortunately, seems to struggle with maintenance.
Week after week, litter scatters the ground, their trash bins are riddled with large holes, and they’ve taken to lining up multiple buildings’ barrels right along the edge of my property. The consequence? A relentless invasion of rats burrowing throughout my yard—front, back, and sides. I’ve been pouring hours into mitigating the damage, including learning to pave along my home’s foundation to deter the pests (a silver lining being my newfound hardscaping skills).
Despite numerous calls to the city of Somerville and reaching out to the property management company, the situation remains unchanged. It’s become deeply unpleasant, especially since my dog and I keep stumbling across dead or decomposing rat remains. I’d greatly appreciate any suggestions on how to tackle this issue! Ideally, I’d like the management to use intact barrels and keep trash off the ground.
Scared to leave my apartment
