If my grandmother Caterina Tauro was still alive she would’ve turned 132 years old today. She passed away 32 years ago in 1993 at the age of 99 years old. She married my grandfather Antonio Tauro who was four years younger than her and who was born here in the United States shortly after my great grandparents legally immigrated from Italy with their family and which automatically made my grandfather an American citizen as well.

While here my grandfather was actually legally employed as one of the laborers digging and construction of the Boston Harbor Sumner Tunnel, originally named the East Boston Traffic Tunnel which opened to traffic on June 30, 1934 from Boston to East Boston.

Then a little later in time my grandparents travelled back to Italy to settle personal property and family affairs for a while where shortly after my father was born. Shortly after preparing for the big move to make the United States their permanent home, they all came back together a few years later.

Even though my father was in his teens at the time he was an American citizen already from birth. My dad still took Assimilation Classes because he wanted to fit in and besides back then it was the right thing to do. Shortly after that my father joined the United States Army and was promoted to sergeant under General Pattern in the tank corp.

Over the years talking to my father about his military experiences as he explained to me that the saddest part of everything was that he had to go back to Italy during the war and fight his own people which he had to do because he was an American soldier and he respected and understood that. 🇺🇸

So with that said when I see this big disruption in our country about illegal migrants thinking that they can just come here and cut the line it gets me livid there were no free handouts of cell phones hotel rooms free food free cars free rent nothing you had to work for it and sneaking into the country was not a moral option. I am 100% for immigration but there is a process that we’ve been following in this country for years which should be respected and enforced.
