AS THE CITY OF MEDFORD TURNS….NEWS ’BOUT TOWN

They Just Don’t Listen

This quote is commonly known among adults and children but not on March 1# at Medford City Council. Re
The rezoning of parts of Salem St….MANY fell on deaf ears again. 1100 petitioners signed against the changes (not zoning but the select changes done rapidly by a $100000
Paid Company by taxpayers) and the MANY attendees who mostly said they KNOW SALEM STREET NEEDS UPGRADING AND ADDITIONS…BUT not all the selected changes!!!! Effects, not negatives!!!

In these past months meetings were held with concerned residents with this company, some advertised online or where???? We have no newspaper!
Some items were deleted like a methadone clinic…but a boarding house could come by special permit and dorms!? This is all in the new idea of DENSITY … THE NEW WORD AFTER DIVERSITY IN MEDFORD. Council forgets we bought here at a price for privacy, land, some for T, access to Boston, landscape, lakes etc I write because “They Just Don’t Listen.”. This was apparent to me when Councilman Leming before the Vote suggested with his comment like ( if they don’t find one thing, it will be something else – wrong). Must be nice to be a mindreader. We JUST WANTED SURVEYS FIRST ..NEVER DONE. In the name of safety, which is part of their oath, they technically could have violated their oath!!

Affordable HSG seems to be the Silver Swan added …poor swan…doomed like Swan Lake. EX
With lots permits shrunk, I bet MANY FOR SALE DIGNS GO UP ON SALEM ST YO HIGHEST DEVELOPER….YOU BET YOUR SWAN THEY WILL BE HIGH PRICED…next, the police will have to be added, and forget about
Sunlight to mNy on abutting streets…such a nice older place.
I SAY RETHINK THIS, BEGIN WITH
STOREOWNERS IF NOT 50-100 MILEs away to build up 2 stories with AFFORDABle apts. Likely these residents will not drive…good for the T, good for business, good for housing. Rest that, then proceed to a next step if viable. The Council sadly and likely only heard. Dense, Dense, dense. Yes drnser tCes, higher excise tax etc. Sadly, Look at yourselves.
Your ability to listen and reason out OUR EFFECTS could be DENSE.

Sharon Deyeso
Longtime, Concerned Resident
