We are writing today with important updates as we continue navigating the challenges surrounding NSB’s home at 32 Lowell Street. One piece of good news is that, on September 26th, the turret that collapsed in late August, is in the process of being wrapped with scaffolding around it to secure the building. This is made possible by the Cecere Family who own the building. When this work is complete, we will be able to re-enter NSB’s studio space safely on Monday, October 7th.
While we are working diligently to be able to operate from NSB studios for the rest of this 2024-2025 school year, we are sincerely grateful to our neighbors at the First Congregational Church for their continued support and to all of you who have donated to help with the additional rental and relocation costs.
We are looking forward to returning to our home, however, unfortunately, the building wrap is only a short-term solution. We do not yet know how, or if, we can permanently repair the building, which is leased by NSB, in part because the insurance company has denied the claim and the Ceceres are now in litigation related to this. If this cannot be resolved promptly, NSB will be forced to find a new home.
NSB’s Artistic and Executive Director, Denise Cecere, with an amazing team, including Ralph Cecere, Caroline Jewell, Erika Wolf, and a fundraising committee of dedicated parents and alumni, are remaining positive and are hoping that we will be able to manage this crisis so that we can continue to raise the barre for generations to come.
