Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line: Clarendon Hill Towers Petition

Dear Billy T and Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line,

I just spoke to you sent to you the Letter and Petition signed by Clarendon Hill Towers Tenants and other Citizens from Somerville and surrounding areas.
Due to the MBTA’s arbitrary deadline for letters, etc. of July 31,(which falls on a Sunday) we made sure the Petition was sent in July 30th…same day mail postage (very expensive.)

My point is MBTA gave citizens about a week-and-a-half for signatures to be collected and mailed, after they sent a brief notice to random areas of Somerville.  I strongly feel Clarendon Hill Towers should have received not only a detailed notice from the MBTA via mail, but also each CHT tenant should have received a serious, timely personal letter from the Mayor, via mail, explaining her position on this vital matter. During the election, the Mayor sent out numerous flyers regarding her campaign…maybe she could  have spent time, as well, composing a flyer regarding her position on this VITAL issue…The MBTA maintained booth during Artbeat so people could talk about the bus changes.  Artbeat is on a Saturday. The buses run on an irregular weekend schedule. The elderly did not want to wait for buses in hot weather to go to a crowded, loud festival to find an MBTA booth to voice their concerns.  The elderly do not want to go attend crowded places, such as Artbeat with the Covid situation.
Following up on our last conversation…I hope every Somerville Citizen will call me at tel:857-251-5639 so I can meet them to sign the Petition. I will be outside of the Essex Building, Clarendon Hill Towers, 1366 Broadway from 5:30 pm to 7:00 pm 7 days/wk and will happily meet people to  sign the Petition. If for some reason I’m not outside, just ring my bell and I’ll be downstairs in a minute.

Thank you, so much, Billy for your tireless dedication to Somerville and the well being of its Citizens.  You are a a Somerville Historian and a True Patriot!

Respectfully,
Karen Glover
