Somerville Remembering William J. Carr

Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends friends of William J. Carr on his passing.

William J. Carr was a wonderful person who will be sadly missed here in Somerville.

William J. Carr, 84 of Somerville passed away suddenly at the Courtyard Nursing home in Medford Mass on August 20, 2021.
He was born July 30, 1937. William is survived by his loving wife Mary Carr of 42 years.
William is also survived by his children Joseph, William,and Robert Carr, Karen Hodgdon of Somerville, James Hodgdon of Stoneham and his wife Yvonne, and Marylou Hodgdon of Somerville. He was predeceased by his son John Hodgdon of Medford. William is also survived by his siblings (sisters) Ann MacNeil of Wayne, PA., Mary Purvis of Hull, MA., Delia Cochran (Dolly) of Montclair, CA., Catherine Carr of Windham NH., and (brothers) James Carr of Revere, MA., and predeceased by Patrick and Daniel Carr. William had many loving grandchildren, and great grandchildren that he loved dearly and were the light of his life. He also had many nieces and nephews.
William served in the United States Army from 1956-1957 and was honorably discharged. William mostly lived his whole life in Somerville, him and his wife Mary did move to Cape Cod for many years only to return to his hometown of Somerville. He was always a huge part of his community and a role model to many. William was a friend to many and would spark a conversation with almost anyone as he always made his presence known – He enjoyed the simple pleasures of building puzzles, playing cards, Yahtzee and checkers with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed a good game of bingo. He had a variety of desserts that he not only served the kids but nicknamed them too such as CVS ice cream, Reese’s and pickles. William will be deeply missed by all who love him.
