Somerville youth ages 12-18 eligible for summer job with Sunsetters, a youth singing and dancing troupe that performs throughout the City in July and August.
SOMERVILLE – Calling all Somerville youth! The Somerville Sunsetters, a singing and dancing youth group that performs throughout Somerville in July and August, is returning for Summer 2019! Auditions will be held for Somerville youth between the ages of 12 and 18 on Tuesday evening, May 28, from 6 to 7 p.m. at the Argenziano School. All Somerville residents meeting the age eligibility may audition, and are asked to bring a song of your choice on your mobile device or on a CD to perform to. The 2019 Sunsetters roster will include up to 10 young people and four alternate members, and will be accompanied by a live music ensemble during performances in July and August. The Sunsetters is a program of the Somerville Recreation Department.
If selected, participants will be required to attend rehearsals Monday through Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m., between June 6 and June 28, as well as two shows weekly (weekdays only) through July and August. Participants will receive a stipend as part of the Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program.
The Somerville Sunsetters perform popular show tunes and current top hits on Somerville streets and in public parks two nights per week on evenings in July in August, at sunset. The group was originally created and very popular in the 1970’s and 1980’s, and was reinstated by Mayor Joe Curtatone in 2004. Selected youth will be required to attend rehearsals Monday through Thursday evenings in June, as well as performances, and will receive a stipend for the summer.
