Emerald Ash Borer Beetle Found in Somerville

The presence of the emerald ash borer (EAB) beetle has been confirmed in Somerville. The EAB is an invasive species that has killed millions of ash trees in the United States and it has been found in 42 other Massachusetts communities. In 2016 we started taking preventive measures against EAB on public trees (Somerville has about 1,000 public ash trees), which included traps to help catch EAB pretense early.

EAB can also be a risk for privately owned trees, so take a minute to read up on the beetle, how to spot them, and what to do if you find them in your yard.
