Bill (H 1617)-Also included at the May 9 hearing is a bill that would impose a 2.5 percent tax on any private college that has an endowment fund of more than $1 billion. The funds would go into a newly-created Educational Opportunity for All Trust Fund that would be used exclusively for the purposes of subsidizing the cost of higher education, early education and child care for lower-income and middle-class residents of the Bay State.

The proposed 2. 5 percent tax on private colleges with massive endowments could significantly level the playing field for lower-income students seeking higher education. It’s encouraging to see initiatives that aim to redistribute wealth in education, particularly when the funds will support early education and childcare. As someone interested in educational equity, I believe this can make a tangible difference for many families. It reminds me of how vital it is to advocate for accessible education, similar to the guides found at Apostate Verity that help navigate various educational resources and opportunities.
