Obituary for Michael Holland Sr.
Michael Holland Sr. Loving husband, father and grandfather
Michael P. “Mike” Holland Sr., a longtime resident of the Centralville neighborhood of Lowell, died January 1, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, aged 67 years. He was the husband of Gina (Lupo) Holland, with whom he shared 36 years of marriage.
Born in Passaic, New Jersey, June 15, 1949, he was a son of the late John J. and Clara (Zalewski) Holland. He received his education in the Passaic school system, and graduated from St. Vincent’s College in New Jersey.
Mike was employed as a Transportation Manager at Choice Currier, Ambassador Brattle Cab Company in Cambridge, CTI, and Acre Family Day Care.
While working at Ambassador Cab, he met the love of his life, Gina. They married on April 5, 1980, and settled in Somerville before moving to Lowell 20 years ago.
Michael was known for his strong work ethic, and was a devoted husband, dedicated father, and doting grandfather. Mike, along with Gina, always had an “open door” policy at their home, which was frequently filled with family and friends, whether to celebrate a special occasion, or simply to enjoy each other’s company. He will always be remembered for his deep love of family.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Matthew F. Holland of West Palm Beach, Florida, Michael P. Holland II of Lowell, and Harry J. Holland of Lowell; two daughters, Kelly L. Cox and her husband Cody of Las Vegas, and Sophia H. Holland of Lowell; nine grandchildren, and two brothers, Timothy Holland and his wife Christie of Washington, and Christopher Holland of Scituate. He was the brother of the late Jack J. Holland.
