Friday Morning Drive-time Car Fire and Multi Car Accident on McGrath Highway Somerville

Firefighters responded to a multicar pileup on McGrath Highway at Highland Avenue early Friday morning.

Massachusetts State police shut down McGrath Highway to one lane each direction and rerouted thousands of commuters in traffic during the clean up.

Statement from Somerville Fire Department, Charles Breen:

On March 20th @ 752 a.m. the Somerville F.D. was alerted to a serious motor vehicle crash on McGrath Highway and Medford Street. At least four vehicles were involved with one of the vehicles fully engulfed in flames upon arrival. Firefighters treated several injured victims in addition to extinguishing the vehicle fire. Somerville Police, MA State Police and Cataldo Ambulance were all on scene.
