Abdul Ahmed, 52, of Somerville, was placed under arrest on charges of Shoplifting by Asportation, Carrying a Firearm and Ammunition without a License to Carry, Possession of a Class A Drug (suspected heroin / fentanyl), Possession of a Class B Drug (suspected crack cocaine), and Possession of a Class E Drug (prescription pills).
Last Friday, July 3, 2026, officers responded to a business on Alewife Brook Parkway after an employee called to report that a suspect, later identified as Ahmed, had stolen merchandise from inside. Officers were able to stop Ahmed outside of the business, during the interaction he was found to be in possession of a loaded handgun with an obliterated serial number as well as multiple plastic baggies containing a trafficking weight of a substance believed to be heroin / fentanyl, trafficking weight of a substance believed to be crack cocaine, and several loose prescription pills. Ahmed does not have a license to carry (LTC) making his possession of a firearm and ammunition a crime. After Ahmed’s identity was confirmed it was discovered that he had an extraditable warrant out of a court in Rockingham County, NH. CPD Officers placed Ahmed under arrest on the listed charges without further incident. Ahmed has been arraigned in Cambridge District Court and held pending a Dangerousness Hearing, prosecution of the case will be managed by the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office.
