Obituary

Robert F. “Bob” Driscoll, of Somerville and formerly of Nantucket, passed away surrounded by his family on April 28, 2025, he was 84. Born and raised on Nantucket, he was the son of Constance (Miller) and John J. Driscoll. A talented athlete, Bob was captain of the Nantucket High Football Team.

Following high school, he enrolled in the Carnegie Institute where he earned his associate’s degree in chemistry, while working at University Hospital. Bob then enlisted in the US Air Force where he served proudly for four years and was named “Airman of the Year.” After his honorable discharge, he began his career in the medical field, starting as a lab tech and worked his way up to Lab Manager and finally Sales. Following retirement from the medical field he kept busy as a concierge at the Marriott Long Wharf in Boston.

Bob enjoyed sports, coaching Somerville Little League over the years and playing golf. Off the field and greens, Bob belonged to bowling and pool leagues, played cards at the Somerville City Club and found the time to volunteer for Bingo at the former St. Polycarp Church where he was a member of the Men’s Club. Above all, Bob was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and friend to all.

Bob was the beloved husband of 55 years to Carol A. (Nugent) Driscoll and devoted father of Greg Driscoll and his wife Jolieanne of Braintree and Lisa Cox of Gulf Breeze, FL. Cherished Grampy of Sadie, Shane, Callie and Landon Driscoll and Vanessa Kilpatrick. Dear Uncle and godfather of Kerrie Casey and her husband Brian of Wakefield, Michelle Harrington of Marblehead, Shawn Driscoll of Worcester and great uncle of Brian, Jr. and J.P. Casey and several other nieces and nephews. Brother of the late Jacqueline “Tootsie” and John “Jisa” Driscoll, III of Nantucket. Brother-in-law of the late Paula Harrington of Somerville and her husband John Harrington of Wakefield.

Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Sunday, May 4th from 2:00PM to 4:30PM with a Prayer Service beginning at 3:30PM. Relatives and friends invited to attend. Interment will be private.
