Obituary
Mrs. Julia (Naughton) Tierney, of Somerville, passed away in her sleep on May 29th, 2024, she was 82. Born and raised in Spiddal, County Galway,
Ireland she was the daughter of the late Nora (Connor) and William Naughton. Julia arrived in the U.S. from Ireland in 1960. Here she met her beloved husband John T. Tierney formerly of Lough, Doolin, County Clare, Ireland and they were married at St. Luke Parish in Belmont then settled in Somerville to raise their family. Together they celebrated 51 years of marriage before John’s passing in 2019.
Julia was devoted to her Catholic faith and was an active parishioner of St. Raphael Church. She also worked for the Archdiocese of Boston for over 30 years, most recently at Sacred Heart Parish in Watertown. Julia enjoyed attending Irish set dances at local social clubs with John, and they loved spending time at Castle Island in South Boston together. An avid walker, she could often be seen walking around her Somerville and Medford neighborhoods. Above all Julia cherished her family and time spent with her children and grandchildren. She is lovingly remembered for her kind, gentle, and loving ways.
Julia was the devoted mother of Mary Ann Hopkins and her husband Christopher of VA, Sean Tierney and his wife Kara of Medford, and Thomas Tierney and his wife Jessica of Sudbury. Cherished Grandma of Sarah, Liam, and Molly Hopkins, Conor and Chloe Tierney, Emma and Addison Tierney. Dear sister of Patrick Naughton of Quincy, Mary Burke of GA, Thomas Naughton and Liam Naughton, both of Ireland and the late Sean Naughton. Also survived by many cherished nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Monday, June 3rd from 4pm – 7pm and again on Tuesday morning in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St. Medford at 10am followed by a Funeral Mass celebrated at 11am. Relatives and friends are invited to attend and are asked to please meet at church on Tuesday morning.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery, Watertown.
