Somerville/Medford Remembering Elizabeth (Oppedisano) Giurleo


Giurleo, Elizabeth (Oppedisano) Of Somerville, passed away Tuesday, January 18, 2022 surrounded by her family at the Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers. She was 97.

Born and raised in Grotteria, Reggio, Calabria, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Francesca (Zavaglia) Oppedisano. At a very young age Elizabeth met the love of her life Giuseppe N. Giurleo and shortly after the two were wed. In 1962, a year after her husband and her sons came to the U.S. she joined with her daughter and youngest son. She and her husband worked hard to provide for their family. She worked for many years as a talented seamstress at Priscilla’s of Boston as a dressmaker. But the job she was most proud of was being a mother. Family was everything to Elizabeth. If you went over her house, you would leave with a full stomach and a warm heart. She always seemed to have the best advice and would guide her family in the right direction with their choices. She was a woman of strong faith and love.
Elizabeth was the beloved wife of the late Giuseppe N. Giurleo. She was the devoted mother of Salvatore Giurleo, Giovanni Giurleo and his wife Paula, Pasquale Giurleo and his wife Maria, Frank Giurleo, Silvana Comeau and Patrick Hogan, Joseph Giurleo Jr. and his wife Erin and the late Nicodemo Giurleo and his surviving wife Maria, and the late Maria Albanese and her late husband Pasquale. She was the loving grandmother of Nick Giurleo Jr, Richie Giurleo and his wife Julie, Paul Giurleo and his wife Jill, Erica Gavin and her husband John, Christopher Giurleo and his partner Brie, Alex Giurleo and his wife Alyssa, Genevieve Giurleo, Michael Giurleo, Lisa Giurleo, Vincent Comeau and his wife Brittany, Nick Comeau and his partner Liz Misuraca , Michael Comeau, Francesco Giurleo and his wife Clara, and Luca, Dominic and Marc Giurleo and is the caring great-grandmother of 13 great grandchildren. She was the sister of the late Pasquale, Charlie and Anthony Oppedisano, Giovanna Luca and Rosa Pelagio.
Relatives and friends are invited to Calling Hours in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Saturday morning January 22nd from 8:30AM to 10:30AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 60 Warner St., Somerville at 11 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Arlington
