On Friday, December 10th, we were made aware of a concerning post on a student’s SnapChat account that included a non-specific threat. We notified the Somerville Police Department and, as a precaution, we also made the decision to keep students inside during their lunch periods. We did not put the school into any type of secure-and-hold as the threat was non-specific.
SPD is continuing to investigate the incident and is working with the student and family.
The last several months have been incredibly challenging for many students as we have continued to navigate the challenges posed by COVID-19. We urge parents and guardians to be vigilant of your child’s social media activity and their access to items that may present a danger to themselves or to others. Please also remind your children of the importance of reporting any concerning social media activity or behavior to a trusted adult so that we can provide the support that is needed. Thank you for your partnership in this effort (Obed Morales, principal and Mary Skipper, Superintendent).
