RICHARD’S OBITUARY
Richard J. Sweeney, 65 of Stoneham, formerly a lifelong resident of Medford, passed away suddenly June
16, 2021 in Maine. Rick, a former Medford Firefighter of 32 years, passed away in the state he grew so
fondly of and where he spent a great deal of his time.
Ricky was also a past IAFF L1032 Vice President, carpenter, auto mechanic and true jack of all trades. He
was a member of the Medford Elks Lodge 915 and great friend to many.
Richard is the son of the late Paul and Rita (Butler) Sweeney. He is survived by and will be dearly missed
by his beloved wife of 39 years Kelley (Duffy) of Stoneham, formerly of Medford. He was the devoted
father to Erin Sweeney and her fiancé, Shawn Donahue of Winchester, Jenn Sweeney of Medford,
Medford Firefighter Joseph Sweeney and his wife Devon of Billerica.
Loving grandfather of Joseph, Kylee, Aiden, Kora, Skylar, and Natalie and affectionately known as
Grumpy. Loving brother to Larry, Paul, Ronny, Mark, Kevin, and Kenny and his dear sister Jeanne Hill. He
is also survived by a very large, loving family.
He was a devoted and cherished family man who touched the lives of many people. He was the first one
to lend a hand to someone in need (even if you didn’t ask him). Rick used his mastery of carpentry to
lend assistance to all those around him.
He loved spending time in Maine with his family, snowmobiling, boating, watching his grandchildren bike
and ski at Mt Abram and hanging with his friends at Suds Pub.
A lifelong Boston sports fan and member of the Bud Light fan club. Ricky embraced life with passion and
enjoyed a good cellar party.
He will truly be missed by many.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St Raphael Parish, 512 High St, Medford MA,
