Real Life Somerville Police Stories: Felipe LEAO (Possession C, Possession D)

The following is a brief summary pertaining to incident #18075038:
Members of the Somerville Police Department Drug Control Unit initiated a drug investigation of Mr. Felipe De Souza Leao and his alleged role in the ongoing distribution of Marijuana. The alleged distribution occurs from his basement apartment located at 197 Summer St., Somerville, MA 02143. This investigation was launched upon receiving multiple complaints from concerned citizens stating that there was alleged drug activity taking place from this residence. Detectives were able to confirm this information through intelligence and cooperation from a confidential source.

At the conclusion of this drug investigation, a search warrant application was requested by me, Detective Goncalves, at the Somerville District Court by Clerk XXXX on Friday, December 21st, 2018. This search warrant (1810-SW-0060) was granted by the court authorizing the search of the following:

#1- The basement residence of 197 Summer St. Somerville, MA 02143.

#2- The person of Felipe De Souza Leao, DOB XXXX.

On Friday, December 21st, 2018, Sergeant Detectives Rego and Capasso along with Detectives Costa, Legros, Cicerone and I set up surveillance around 197 Summer St. At approximately 5:36 P.M., Detectives observed Mr. Leao operating his vehicle, bearing Massachusetts registration XXXX approaching 197 Summer St. A motor vehicle stop was conducted as Mr. Leao was pulling into the driveway/garage area of 197 Summer St. Detectives immediately pulled Mr. Leao out of his vehicle and handcuffed him. I explained to Mr. Leao that we had a search warrant for his person as well for his residence. Mr. Leao provided us with the keys to his apartment and we entered the residence.

During the execution of the search warrant Detectives found 40 grams of psychedelic mushrooms and 1.125 pounds of Marijuana. Also inside the residence were several items common with that of the distribution of narcotics. These items included a box of glassine baggies and (2) empty one pound sealable bags. While searching Mr. Leaos vehicle, which was located inside the garage, Detectives found approximately $615 in US currency inside his wallet. In the center console was a small digital scale as well as a small glassine baggie of Marijuana weighing approximately 40 grams.

Mr. Leao was placed under arrest for Possession with Intent to Distribute Class C- Psychedelic Mushrooms and Possession with Intent to Distribute Class D-Marijuana. He was searched and placed in marked wagon #200 by Officer Desrochers and transported to Somerville Police Headquarters. Mr. Leao was booked in the usual manner by Lt. Digregorio.
