Somerville 4/4: Public Hearing on Proposed Real Estate Transfer Fee

This public hearing concerns a proposal to charge a fee of up to 1 percent on the sale price of property. The funds generated would be used for affordable housing initiatives, and there would be exemptions for long-time homeowners, vulnerable seniors, family members, and other scenarios.   1. This was important enough that all Somerville Home Owners should have been notified by mail. The board of Alderman are now refusing to notify home owners about a request for input from home owners. If that makes no sense, neither does the sales tax. You major and Alderman under his thumb, want to tax Somerville home owners, whose median household income is $66K/year to help folks that make up $161K a year but can’t afford to buy your home. Doest that make sense to you?

    Please write the Alderman to say NO TRANSFER TAX.
