What’s New in Ward 2

US2 kickoff and Union Square Development
On August 19th, the City and Union Square Station Associates (US2) hosted a community event to kickoff the Union Square redevelopment project. I remember spending so much time in Union Square as a little girl. Union

Square has always had everything important to my family and me throughout every stage of my life. I hope that the Square’s future continues to offer something to every member of the community, because the Square has to work for the residents of the Somerville above all else. I am glad to see that time and time again US2 has demonstrated an interest and emphasis on the community.

Union United and Union Square Neighbors are two very important groups helping to guide and shape this vision and the workshops that Union Square Neighbors have sponsored over the course of the summer have been motivating and inspirational in their determination and breadth of ideas. I am going to be as involved with those groups as I can and I think you should too.

Updates and Meetings Important to Ward 2 Residents

Zoning Board Meeting – Last month neighborhood meetings were held for 2 proposed projects in the Lincoln Park neighborhood, 73 Concord Ave and 45 Adrian St. Both projects will be up for consideration by the Zoning Board of Appeals. At previous neighborhood meetings concerns regarding parking and density were discussed and petitioners suggested scaling back the projects. Attend the meeting on September 3rd, at 6pm in City Hall to voice your opinion. I will be there representing the concerns that were raised at the neighborhood meetings. Contact me if you cannot attend or have any questions or concerns.

314-316 Somerville Ave – I am hosting a neighborhood meeting on September 16, at 6pm in the Public Safety Building to discuss the future of this site, which housed a bakery until it burned down over a year ago. There has been discussion to add residential units above the retail space.

Abutters and anyone interested in Union Square redevelopment should attend this meeting. Every project, no matter how small, will have an impact on the future and development of Union Square as a whole. It is my intention to schedule neighborhood meetings for changes happening in Union Square that require Planning and Zoning approval so that everyone in the community can be informed and voice their opinion.

“Rock ON” – A new venue has been proposed at 379 Somerville Ave. The venue will be complete with a food menu and liquor license and it will host a variety of comedy, poetry, and live music acts. There will be a community meeting on September 4th, at 6pm in the Public Safety Building to discuss the proposed business prior to their liquor license hearing.

First Lincoln Park Design Meeting – At last! The first Lincoln Park redesign meeting is scheduled for September 15th, at 6:30pm in the Argenziano School. This will be the first of many meetings to plan a comprehensive mixed-use design that reflects the needs of the community that surrounds Lincoln Park and preserve the precious green space.

  1. I feel that there is way to much construction of large scale buildings taking place right now in Ward 2 with no consideration for sufficient parking, and no regard for green or open space.
