Obituary
Donald J. “Donny” Roy- Of Somerville passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 77 years old.
Born in Cambridge, Donny was the cherished son of the late Harold B. and Ruth (Powers) Roy. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Donnie devoted much of his life to honoring and supporting his fellow servicemen and women. He was deeply involved in veterans’ affairs, and his unwavering dedication was evident in his regular participation in parades, community events, and social gatherings honoring those who served.
Beloved son of the late Harold B. and Ruth (Powers) Roy. Devoted brother of Robert Roy and his late wife Annette of Braintree, David Roy and his wife Helen of Billerica, Beverly LeClair and her longtime companion Robert Green of Melrose and the late Harry Roy, Shirley “Sissy Roy, John “Jackie” Roy, Lenoard “Lenny” Roy, Jean Roy, and Richard Roy and his surviving wife Barbara. Also the cherished and loving godfather and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be held in the George L. Doherty Funeral Home on 855 Broadway (Powder House SQ.) Somerville, on Wednesday, May 28th from 5:00PM to 7:00PM.
Words of Remembrance will be held at 6:30PM.
Interment will be held privately at Cambridge Cemetery, Cambridge.
Donnie Roy was a true Somerville native, and his loss will surely be felt by many in the community. May his family find comfort in the love and support surrounding them during this time.
