On September 17th at 11:00 a.m. Somerville’s own Kenny Manzi will be playing Taps at the gravesite of PFC RONALD J POINTER to honor the 51st anniversary of his KIA In the Quan Tri Province of Vietnam.
Kenny is hoping that any and all of Ronald Pointer’s high school friends and those who served honorably in the country with Ronald can attend the brief and simple ceremony this year.
We are honored to have Ronald Pointer’s two twin sisters Debbie and Donna who will be in attendance at the ceremony.
Ronald Pointer is buried in the Somerville Veterans Cemetery that’s located in Teele Square in Somerville.
ABOUT PFC RONALD J POINTER
PFC Pointer died saving lives and he is buried In the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Somerville.
Ronald, the grandson of Caroline Sasso of Somerville MA, the son of William Pointer deceased, and the son of Louise Pointer of Waltham MA enlisted in the US Marine Corps on February 6, 1967 in Boston MA.
He arrived in Vietnam on April 17, 1968 assigned to Company H BLT 2/26 9th MAB FMFPAC.
During Operation LANCASTER II, in Hoang Hoa District of Quang Tri Province in the vicinity of LZ Margo the BLT 2/26 CP (Command Post) was hit with 60 rounds of 60mm and 82mm mortar fire, small arms fire was also exchanged by the Marines and enemy force before the NVA withdrew.
Thirteen Marines were wounded and PFC Pointer was killed as a result of multiple fragmentation wounds by the hostile mortar fire.

The bottom line is, Whoever you are, and I am sure I know, you will never hurt me with comments that u make such as this, in announcing “Deborah was the only sister that showed up.” I now will be informed of anything that commemorates my brother Ronnie. I only wished it was from my other half. I pray for my dear sister whom I love and always will LOVE be their for her. Please get the professional help you obviously need . I don’t know why I was thinking about Ronnie at this time. But we were friends when we were kids . Went to the movies in Davis Sq and went to school together in the Carr school. I became a Marine in July 68 and went to VietNam 69_70. He was a great friend to me. God bless Ronnie. Gil…

What a wonderful thing to do to honor Ronnie. I’m so happy that his sisters will be present. They missed out on so much by having their brother die at such a young age.
