Born in Somerville, he was the son of the late Edgar and Margaret (Mulligan) Barter.

Beloved husband of the late Ursula A. (Tietz) Barter.

Loving father of Carolyn O’Brien and her husband Tom of Medford and the late Edward J. Barter Jr. Brother of the late Phyllis (Barter) Hoxie.

Dear grandfather of Chelsea and TJ O’Brien and Joshua Barter.
