Some exciting events in the coming weeks:

Ongoing Art Exhibit beginning Monday,
January 27th through Friday, February 21st. View pastel portraits and micro-biographies of nine of Somerville’s older adults done by local artist Nancy Hall Brooks at the Holland Street Center,
M-F 8:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Thursday, February 6th: Diabetes Patient Educates Peers on Taking Control of the Disease, Holland Street Center, 167 Holland Street. Patient Kirk Kenyon knows first-hand the challenges and obstacles to maintaining control of diabetes. Come hear his practical and inspiration presentation at 10 a.m. After the presentation, there is time for one-on-one counseling and education.

Friday, February 14th. SUPER BINGO at Holland Street Center.

Wednesday, Feburary 19th: Grandparents Day. This year’s theme is “Growing and Learning Together.” All children will have the opportunity to bring home their own plant and watch it grow. Special kid-friendly BINGO and lunch also on the program. Reservations required. Call Janine Lotti at 617-625-6600, ext. 2300 to register or for more information.

Atlantic City – Taj Mahal
We are off January 12th – 14th for two nights at the Luxurious Taj Mahal Resort and Casino. Transportation is included. Non stop entertainment, a dazzling array of shops and so much more! Sold Out—

Supper and Bingo at Hanscom Airforce Base
Join us January 22nd in the evening for Supper and Bingo at Hanscom Air force Base. The cost is $30 dollars per person. Transportation and meal is included into the cost. RSVP is required. Hope you can join us!

Book Club
Book club will be meeting Friday January 3rd at 10 a.m. for coffee and discussion of the Pulitzer Prize winning book “behind the beautiful forevers- Life, Death, and Hope in a Mumbai Undercity.”, by Katherine Boo. The Group meets promptly at 10 a.m. in the Holland St. center conference room. Free.

January Breakfast
Please join us for our first monthly breakfast of 2014 at Holland St. The guest speaker will be leading an interesting discussion on “What to do with your leisure time.” This talk is presented by a representative from the Massachusetts Council on Compulsive Gambling/AdCare Council. $2 suggested voluntary donation per meal. RSVP required.

Men’s Group
Come join in for some interesting conversation a cup of coffee with some likeminded men. Group meets once a month on the first Tuesday of each month at 10:30 A.M. at 167 Holland St. Free

Veteran’s Group
Social group meets on the third Monday of each month with a different topic/speaker each month. Open to veterans and their spouses. Free.

event with local author, Becky Sarah, who is about to release her book,
Grandmothering: Real Life in Real Families. It will be a book talk and

being a grandparent to grandchildren who have gay and lesbian parents.

“Stonewall Uprising”
On June 28, 1969 the police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in
Greenwich Village, New York City. The street erupted into violent
protests which continued for six days and marked a turning point in the
gay civil rights movement. Meal will be from Masala Indian Restaurant.
Price: $6. RSVP by October 25th.

Thursday, November 16th – Join us for a wonderful intergenerational
event with local author, Becky Sarah, who is about to release her book,
Grandmothering: Real Life in Real Families. It will be a book talk and
discussion, focusing on the section of the book in which she talks about
being a grandparent to grandchildren who have gay and lesbian parents.

In the early 1970’s, Grace Schrafft and Grace Moceri of Gloucester, MA.
left their husbands to be together. It is a heartbreaking, funny and
extremely moving document of life and love. RSVP by November 20th.

LBT Women Fit-4-Life Fitness and Nutrition Classes.  Tuesday and
Thursday evenings.  $10 a month with scholarships available.
