This past weekend, a group from the Saints Cosmas and Damian Society of Somerville and Cambridge traveled to Gaeta, Italy. Among the dignitaries in attendance were former Cambridge mayors and current city councilors Denise Simmons and Marc McGovern.
Their mission was to honor and support the Saints Cosmas and Damian Society in Gaeta.
Celebrations continued throughout the weekend with goodwill events honoring the saints. One of the highlights was the honor of Ambassador to Gaeta, bestowed upon State Senator Salvatore DiDomenico of Everett, Massachusetts, by Gaeta Mayor Cristian Leccese. The reception was outstanding and welcoming. Many local families approached Society members in the streets and shared connections to Massachusetts. It was an exciting and uplifting weekend.
This was the first time the Society traveled as a large group of 25 people. Members were also granted the distinguished honor of carrying the saints through Gaeta during the procession. Highlights of the visit were aired on local Gaeta news and shared online.
