Obituary
Brian Daniel Murphy – Of Medford, left us far too soon, pulling off the most epic “Irish Goodbye”. He was only 49 years young.
Brian was blessed with an extraordinary artistic talent and a wonderfully eccentric spirit. He would happily spend hours lost in his own world bringing his unique imagination to life, whether transforming a forgotten roadside painting into a masterpiece or creating something entirely new. His remarkable gift allowed him to see beauty in the absurd and bring joy to the mundane. Art was more than a hobby to Brian—it was simply how he experienced the world.
In addition to his artistic abilities, Brian was a dedicated martial artist who earned his black belt in Uechi Karate through years of hard work, discipline, and perseverance. He was self-taught in Japanese and ASL – the latter of which he learned simply to make communication more inclusive for a coworker.
While Brian had many talents, nothing brought him greater happiness than being a father. His beloved daughter was the center of his world and his greatest accomplishment. Every moment spent with her was cherished, and her smile had the remarkable ability to brighten even his darkest days. Watching her grow and sharing in her life brought him immeasurable pride and joy.
Brian will also be remembered for his larger-than-life personality. He had an infectious laugh and sense of humor, a warm heart, and an outgoing spirit that naturally drew people to him. The life of the party, he was always the first to hit the dance floor. If Brian was in the room, you could be certain there would be laughter, stories, and unforgettable memories. He had a unique way of making others feel welcome and leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Born in Winchester and raised in Medford, he was the beloved son of the late Thomas F. and Nancy E. (Connors) Murphy.
Beloved father of Maeve Tommi Murphy. Devoted brother of Peggy A. McCarthy of Nashua, Sean Murphy and his wife Pam of Marstons Mills, Colleen K. Murphy of Weymouth, and Kevin Murphy and his wife Kanako of Pasadena, CA. Loving uncle of Julia Murphy. Also lovingly survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) on Friday, August 7th at 11:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High St at 12:00PM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held on Thursday, August 6th from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.
Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
