Obituary
Marie B. (Jones) Battaglia – Of Topsfield, formerly of Somerville, passed away after a brief decline in health on Friday, June 5, 2026. She was 89 years old.
Born in Boston and raised in Somerville, Marie was the beloved daughter of the late George B. and Margaret (Swindle) Jones. She spent many years working at First National Bank and later at Tufts University, where she was known for her dedication, kindness, and friendly nature.
Marie embraced life with enthusiasm and joy. She had a passion for travel and was always eager to explore new places, whether it was a day trip close to home or an adventure abroad. She treasured the memories she made along the way and the people she met during her travels. Dancing was another great love in her life. Whenever a favorite song came on, Marie could often be found dancing, especially with her beloved late husband, Aurelio. Their time spent dancing together created many cherished memories that she carried with her throughout her life.
Marie also enjoyed playing cards with family and friends, relishing both the competition and the laughter that accompanied every game. More than anything, however, she loved being surrounded by her family. Marie had a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She loved opening her home to family and friends, preparing delicious meals, and gathering loved ones around her table. Seeing those she loved sharing stories, laughter, and happiness brought her immense joy. Her kitchen and dining room were often the heart of family gatherings, where memories were made and traditions were passed down through generations.
Above all, Marie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose love for her family knew no bounds. She will be remembered for her warm smile, generous spirit, unwavering love, and the countless lives she touched through her kindness and hospitality. Her legacy of love, family, and togetherness will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Beloved wife of 69 years to the late Aurelio Battaglia. Devoted mother of Colleen Bessom of Topsfield, Brenda Bettinelli and her husband Stephen of Boston and Christopher Battaglia of New Jersey. Cherished grandmother of Max Battaglia and Morgan Battaglia. Dear sister of the late Maria Daley and her late husband Leonard, the late John Jones and his late wife Lorraine. Also lovingly survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
A funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville on Monday, June 15th at 9:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church 512 High St. at 10:00AM.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held on Sunday, June 14 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.
Services will conclude with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett
