Obituary
Cheryl Ann (Cameron) Scully, passed away at her home in Somerville surrounded by the love of her family on August 1, 2025, at the age of 67. Born and raised in Somerville, Cheryl was one of six children born to Etta (Henderson) and Archibald Cameron.
She had fond memories of growing up in her family home in Teele Square. She adored her parents and would reminisce about searching for different bugs in the backyard with her father (and his parrot!) and eating homemade egg salad sandwiches with her mother on school lunch breaks. A graduate of Somerville High School with the Class of 1975, Cheryl moved to Lynn after getting married and lived there for over 30 years. Nonetheless, she stayed very close to her best friends from Somerville and remained close with them to this day. Even when they did not see each other for a while, Cheryl and her Somerville crew picked back up as if no time had passed. She and her husband Kevin returned to Somerville in 2017.
Cheryl began her career in retail sales and banking and worked in various roles at several well-known companies including the Christmas Tree Shops, Dress Barn, Famous Footwear, and Citizens Bank. At every work place, she met cherished friends and developed relationships that lasted her whole life. Shout out to the Green Tea / Bali Hai group. She worked tirelessly for 35+ years until her daughter Nicole begged her to retire in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Even in retirement, Cheryl was very active. She took on any and every craft project—from cross-stitching to vase painting to creating incredible Christmas decorations from scratch. Her Christmas hat boxes were so good that they are on display in her house year ‘round. She particularly enjoyed making clothes, scarves, bowl warmers, purses, and all kinds of accessories for her friends and daughters, who treasure every piece she ever made. She really could have made millions with an Etsy shop.
Cheryl loved traveling to tropical locations and considered the beaches of Aruba her “happy place.” If Aruba was too far away, trips to Cape Cod for the beaches (and the ice cream) would do just as well. She and Kevin were regulars at Seafood Sam’s in South Yarmouth. And lest we forget all of the family trips and shenanigans on Royal Caribbean cruises over the years! Cheryl finally made it across the Atlantic to Europe for a Christmas vacation in 2023 with her husband and daughters. While it was no Aruba, she had a great time. She was even willing to try afternoon tea, which was a big step for a lifelong Dunkin’ Donuts drinker.
Cheryl is survived by her beloved husband Kevin Scully. When they first met, Kevin would call Cheryl at her workplace to ask her out on dates. His bold move paid off, and they were married for nearly 39 years. She is also survived by her daughters and best friends Nicole Scully of New York, New York and Lauren Scully of London, England. She was the dear sister of Dianne Connelly (and her husband Dan) of Hyannis and the late Jacqueline Pegg, Frances (“Frannie”) Russell, Lawrence Cameron, and Lois Goodfellow. Wherever she is now watching over all of us, we know she is in good company. We imagine that Frannie is tending bar for everyone and providing sage advice to Cheryl, as she did growing up. Cheryl leaves many loved cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Cheryl was incredibly kind, patient, talented, and funny. There was never a concern of yours she couldn’t soothe, an accomplishment she wouldn’t celebrate, or a cross word puzzle she couldn’t solve. She was the best person we’ve ever met. The world will be a little less bright and a little less creative without her.
In keeping with Cheryl’s wishes, services will be private. A Celebration of Life party will be held at a later date. If you wish, donations in Cheryl’s memory can be made to Massachusetts General Hospital’s Thoracic Oncology Fund: https://giving.massgeneral.org/donate/lung-cancer-research
