Somerville/Medford Remembering Paul R. Andrews

Paul R. Andrews, 81, of Woburn, MA, passed away on Saturday, March 1st, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in Cambridge, Paul was the son of the late Anthony and Dorothy (Keefe) Andrews. He graduated high school and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, where he was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. His dedication to his country was a point of pride throughout his life.

After his service, Paul got his bachelor’s degree from UMass Boston. He went on to become the director of the laundry department at Youville hospital in Cambridge.

He was known for his love of working with his hands. When he wasn’t working, Paul could often be found tending to his yard, which he meticulously maintained, or lending a helping hand to friends and family with home repairs. His knack for fixing anything earned him the affectionate title of “Mr. Fix-It.”

Paul was also an avid family man, and his greatest joy came from spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren. He treasured every moment with them and was deeply involved in their lives.

A proud member of the George Dilboy Post, Paul was a man of service and community. His kindness, work ethic, and love for family will always be remembered.

Beloved husband of 45 years to Constance “Connie” (Dempsey) Andrews. Devoted father of Beverly DeFlumeri and her husband Edward of Billerica, and Colleen Collins and her husband Kevin of Billerica. Cherished grandfather of Nicholas DeFlumeri, Brianna DeFlumeri and Ayla Ray. Dear brother of Herbert Andrews and Katherine Andrews and the late Richard Andrews, Dorothea Payzant, Anthony Andrews and Daniel Andrews. Also survived by many loving cousins, nieces and nephews. As well as his best friend of over 55 years, Thomas Barry and Ayla’s father, Jeremy Ray.

A funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, on Thursday, March 6th at 9:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church, 264 Washington St., Somerville at 10:00AM.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Calling Hours will be held Wednesday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.

Services will conclude with burial at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge.
