Somerville Community Invited to Henry Hansen Park Ribbon Cutting on Thursday, November 7

Memorial park and wall honoring Sergeant Henry Hansen, the armed services and permeable features
for storm resilience among new features

SOMERVILLE– Mayor Katjana Ballantyne, Ward 5 City Councilor Naima Sait, and Director of Veterans
Services Jerome Thomas invite the Somerville community to join a ribbon cutting ceremony for the newly renovated Henry Hansen Park on Thursday, November 7, at 9 a.m. The new park includes a memorial wall and plaques honoring Sgt. Henry Hansen and main branches
of the armed services, a seating wall, water bottle filler, native landscape plantings, and more.

Henry Hansen Park is located at 70 Partridge Ave., on the corner of Medford St. and Partridge Ave.
Sgt. Henry O. “Hank” Hansen, a Magoun Square resident, was killed in action just one week after participating in the first flag-raising on Iwo Jima’s Mount Suribachi. The new park design was driven by community process with funding provided by the Massachusetts
PARC program and the Somerville Community Preservation Act.
