Somerville/Medford Remembering Mary F. Ellis

ELLIS, Mary F. (McLaughlin) – Of Somerville and Pocasset born on November 9, 1933, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, October 20, 2024, at the age of 90.

Born in Charlestown, Ma, Mary moved to Somerville at the age of 12. She attended St. Clements Schools. It was at a local dance that she met her beloved husband, Arthur D. Ellis, with whom she shared 55 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they raised four children. Mary prioritized family above all else. She was a vibrant and devoted mother, who instilled in her children’s values of independence, strength, service to others, and above all love.

Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the true light of her life. She enjoyed nothing more than watching them play in her back yard in Somerville, dinners around the kitchen table, and summering on the beach in Pocasset. She loved watching her children and grandchildren play at the beach and hearing their laughter fill the air. Those memories of times spent with family are a testament of her love and she cherished every moment. Those memories filled her heart with immeasurable joy and treasured them deeply.

Mary’s life was a testament to the power of love and family. Being in the spotlight or material things were never important to her. Her legacy lies in the hearts of her children and grandchildren. She showed us all the true measure of success is found in the love we share and the connections we foster.

Mary was a brilliant, hardworking, women who spent her life in service to others. She worked at the Cooperative for Human Services for over 30 years, where she was highly respected and valued. Her dedication and service were appreciated until her Retirment in 2022, at the age of 89.

Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband Arthur D. Ellis, Sr and her sons Arthur D. Ellis Jr, and William C. Ellis.

She is survived by her daughters Janice Ellis Ballerini and her husband Anthony, and their children, Jamie and Max; her daughter Maureen Gage and her husband Scott, and their children Scott, James and Mary; her daughter in-law Jean Ellis, wife of Arthur David Ellis Jr., and their children, David, Kate and Ryan; her grandchildren, the children of William Ellis, Amy, Ross and William Ellis; and her eight great-grandchildren.

She is also survived by her sisters Joan Farren of Medford, and Eugenia Kane of Woburn, her sister in-law Fran McLaughlin of Waltham, and is predecease by her brother James J. McLaughlin of Waltham.

Mary’s love, strength and kindness will remain with her family forever.

A funeral procession will be held from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, on Friday October 25th at 9:00AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Clement Church, 64 Warner St., Medford at 10:00AM.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 4:00PM to 7:00PM.

Services will conclude with interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
