City Targets High-Crash Location with Redesign of Powder House Blvd. & Rte. 16 Intersection:

Get Updates at Feb. 1 Meeting
The current intersection at Powder House Boulevard and Route 16 is a main entrance into Somerville. It’s also a high-crash location, with 48 crashes between 2014 and 2021.

As part of the City’s Vision Zero Action Plan to eliminate traffic deaths and serious traffic injuries, we held a public redesign process for the intersection. Based on best road safety practices, the traffic circle will now be replaced with a T-shaped intersection with traffic signals. Construction will begin this winter and is expected to continue through the fall of 2024.

Mayor Katjana Ballantyne and Ward 7 Councilor Judy Pineda Neufeld invite you to a virtual community meeting to learn about the plans and upcoming construction schedule. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, February 1, online via Zoom at 6 p.m. Register to attend.

The new design is intended to improve safety for all road users by enhancing pedestrian and bicycle connections, improving access for residents, and slowing drivers.
