Dear Billy T and Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line,
During this past blizzard that the city of Somerville became the grinch that stole livelihoods and trust by sneakingly taking away overtime from DPW workers.
The DPW workers were called in at 10 PM to work for 24 hours straight that requires six hours sleep time, but the city instead that night called the DPW workers that were called in at 10pm to begin working at 12 midnight instead. So then the city made sure that two hours prior the 12 midnight start were not counted and taken away from them to be considered their sleep time. What a despicable cheap low-blow by the city!
Also DPW worker’s overtime was taken away from them on plowing out the unused multitude of ridiculous bike lanes protected by those ridiculous white poles throughout the city, but replacing them with independent contractors to do the job at a much higher rate. So don’t fall for it, aka the “Big Farce” or the good name for this stunt should be named after the group “Cheap Trick!”
PS:Wouldn’t it be a shame if no DPW workers showed up to the next storm? Just saying!
