Somerville Remembering Somerville Police Officer Robert “Bob” Hickey

Our sincere condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of Robert “Bob” Hickey on his passing.

Robert Hickey was an amazing and wonderful person who will be sadly missed here in Somerville by many.

ROBERT’S OBITUARY:

Hickey, Robert W. -58, Formally from Somerville died suddenly on December 3, 2021.

Robert was the beloved husband of Deborah Hickey, and son of John Hickey of Charlestown, MA, and Mary (McGonagle) Hickey of Somerville, MA.

He served in the United States Marine Corps for 13 years and was a retired police officer of Somerville, Massachusetts. Robert was the loving father of eight children, Cassandra Hickey of Hudson, NH, Shannon Mahoney and husband Mark Mahoney of Billerica, MA, Megan Hickey of Derry, NH, Brianna Hickey of Billerica, MA, Jalynn MacIntyre and husband Glenn MacIntyre of Lawrence, MA, Christopher Hickey of Billerica, MA, Makayla Hickey of Billerica, MA, and Serena Hickey of Billerica, MA.

Robert was the grandfather to seven grandchildren, Francisco, Hazel, Ryan, Savannah, Jamaal, Robert, and Emmett.

Robert was also the brother to Marie Hickey-Cook of Saugus, MA, Philip Hickey of Medford, MA, Maureen Fucile of Somerville, MA, Joseph Hickey of Cambridge, MA, Denise Iverson of Las Vegas, NV, Kelly Pope of Raynham, MA and the late Eileen Doherty, John and Patrick Hickey, and stepbrother of Susan Drew of Taunton, MA, William Lettieri, Diane O’Hanlon both of Brockton, MA, Karen Lettieri-Quimby of Taunton, MA, and Gary Letteiri of Taunton, MA.

Robert lived his life by the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment. He was a
SGT of the US Marine Corps from 1981 to 1993. While in the Marines he was assigned to Camp Lejeune in August of 1981. Okinawa Japan in October of 1981 at Camp Hansen 3rd FSSG 9th engineering support battalion then later deployed to Cuba where he did minefield maintenance. He was deployed to Beirut and was stationed there during the bombing of our US Embassy on April 18, 1983. The bombing killed 63 people and 17 Americans.

Robert married Deborah in March of 1985. Every time Robert came home his family grew. From 1995 to 2021 Robert spent 26 years proudly serving as a police officer for his hometown of Somerville.

Funeral procession from the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway (Powder House Sq.) Somerville, Saturday December 11th at 9am followed by a Mass in St. Ann’s Church, 50 Thurston St Somerville, MA at 10AM. Relatives and friends invited. Calling hours Friday 4-7pm.
Interment will be scheduled at a later date pending Arlington National Cemetery Arrangements.

  1. I just found out the sad news of Bob’s passing. I had served with Bob in the Marine Corps, he was a good Marine and friend to all that knew him. Sincere condolences to the Hickey family.
