Somerville/Medford Speakup Line:Mayor’s Office and New DPW Commissioner Asleep at the Helm

Dear Billy T and Somerville/Medford News Weekly Speakup Line,

Good morning Billy, I hope that you had a lovely Christmas and New Year with your family but hey if you want to take a ride over to McGrath highway next to Edmans Street.

Apparently there was an accident there and it looks like there was there and the light post is knocked over wires hanging out of the bottom the number to the car with the plate still on it glass everywhere. Even on the side walls where my dog almost cut her paws and has been like that for a week now just letting you know. It’s been there since Christmas weekend and here we are now in the almost 2nd week of January and it is still here as of this day. Obviously the car is no longer on scene, but the bumper is lol and the light post is on the ground and glass everywhere still.
This accident happened during Christmas and I was hoping that they would’ve cleaned it up after the Christmas holiday since everything was closed, but it didn’t happen.

Why hasn’t the mayor‘s office and/or the Department of Public Works commissioner done their jobs yet? Shameful, time for change!

  1. The whole strip is a mess, a disgrace! Just drive down McGrath Hwy from Twin City and see all the rusted rotted poles falling off on the bridge, just hanging there waiting for a tragedy to happen before they fix anything. Poles, signs, all left over construction debris all over Somerville roads.

Have you been thru Davis Square? It’s like being in a pinball machine with those huge “barriers” bumpers. Also, I do not see building construction permits for those people building mini housing units in the streets aka eating areas by the sewage systems and dirty asf roads, so unsanitary.

  2. It starts at the top. The city is in the worse condition ever. This Mayor has checked out, the three previous Mayors did a great job maintaining the city and responding to the constituant’s needs. The Streets are poor, sidewalks are in disrepair, signage worn, trees not maintained, crosswalk are not visible, numerous areas graffitied, municipal buildings are run down and unsafe.

Our schools are not safe to attend even though Joe stated back in the summer they were ready and all the systems were checked and safe. Not true!! Somerville needs new leadership in all aspects. A new Mayor, a new board of Councilors, down size the number to 7 City wide at all Large.

Term limits are set by voters homeowners get off your asses and vote in this years local election. Lets send a message to city hall the tax, fees party is over.

  3. I said the same thing about that hazard being there for too long but I thought it would be the States responsibility to clear it up. Either way the public should not be put in harms way and the City should insist on clean up be done asap.
