Congratulations to Somerville Police Officer Mike Wyatt on his retirement today after 32 years! Mike has always been a good friend to the department and the fire service. In his spare time he plays the bagpipes with the Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes and Drums and is a volunteer with the Boston Sparks Association. Many happy and healthy years Mike!

Mike Wyatt West Patrol District, Motor Officer with the Somerville Police Department.
While a police officer for 32 years Mike has held many positions including ; Narcotics Unit, Domestic Violence Unit, Detective Bureau, Arson Squad, Traffic Unit, Crash Reconstruction, Patrol Division, Field Training Officer/Instructor, Somerville Police Academy.

He was also the Department Bagpiper for 10 years. He is presently a bagpiper with the Greater Boston Firefighters Pipes and Drums.
He has been a police officer with the Somerville Police Department since February of 1987 to present (32 years 1 month). Mike is a member of the Traffic Unit/Motorcycle Unit with duties that consist of traffic enforcement, crash investigation and crash reconstruction. Other duties also include funeral escort, VIP escort.

While he was in the US Army from August 1982 – August 1985, he served as a Military Police Officer in Munsan, South Korea and at Fort Riley, Kansas. His duties there as a Military Police officer consisted of enforcement of Uniform Code of Military Justice, patrol duties, traffic enforcement, traffic control, combat operations.

The City of Somerville Police Department has been very fortunate to have someone with these qualifications and track record protecting our citizens and city.
