Somerville Speakup Line:Hank Hansen Park In The Dark Totally Unacceptable

Dear Billy T and Somerville Speakup Line,

Around memorial day, I called Somerville is 311, and put in a request for the light that’s been out for months on Hank Hansen Park, Congressional medal of honor recipient and Somerville resident who died or just after raising the flag on Iwo Jima, they told me it would be fixed in a couple weeks,

it’s still not fixed, what a disgrace, the woman who I talked to report it to on the phone at city hall didn’t even know who hank Hansen was.

    Hello Ragdoll,
So sorry for your loss. My oldest brother served in Vietnam. His birthday was August-18. My baby brother served in Germany. His birthday was June-18. They both passed away many years ago. I feel your pain and wanted to reach out. Let you know that your not alone. I am also, disgusted, disappointed and ashamed with the way things are going these days. Destroying Headstones and tearing down Monuments. THE WORLD’S GONE CRAZY. I pray each day that it will get better. It is so sad about the Park. It’s been over 2 years (AUGUST-2019) since your post. I SINCERELY HOPE THAT THE LIGHTING IS GOOD-GATES ARE NOT LOCKED and THE PEOPLE ARE USING THE DOG PARK.

    STAY SAFE-Sincerely…Old Lady in TEXAS…JJ

  2. That is awfully sad. Recently I visited the Veterans Cemetery near Clarendon Hill. I wanted to leave flower’s for my Brother’s 50th anniversary of his passing. He was killed in Vietnam on August 12, 1969. The gates to the cemetery were locked. I called 311 the woman I spoke to had no idea why the gates were locked. She promised to send the DPW to open them for me. A very kind man arrived and apologized. He said the gate’s had to be locked because people were letting their dogs defecate in the cemetery. He said four dog parks in the city and people were using the cemetery. I called 311 again asking that signs be posted, no dogs allowed to defecate on our military men, who gave this Country the ultimate sacrifice. Also, anyone caught doing this should pay a fine. I’m disgusted and disappointed never have those gates been locked!!! Shame on the City of Somerville. It has changed only for the hipsters, bike lane people and people with money. I hope the light gets fixed and the signs go up with a fine for the owners of the dogs allowed to crap on our brave men, including my brother.
