The Somerville Winter Hill Post Office branch office located 324 Broadway in Somerville was closed for lunch on Tuesday
The sign on the front door reads ‘Station closed for lunch 11 AM to 12:30 PM 57 Bow Street and West Somerville Stations are open.’
While they were chowing out on a scrumptious lunch, angry customers were waiting in front of the post office for over an hour in extreme 90 degree temperatures waiting for someone to show up to do business.
While we were there, a postal worker even showed up who was frustrated and called it in to the main office in Chelsea complaining as well.
What ever happened to the old postal office slogan the words “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds” – although by no means an official creed or motto of the United States Postal Service – have long been associated with the American postman. But absolutely and definitely these words don’t apply here in Somerville.
A postal worker finally was seen casually walking down Winter Hill and finally opened the doors on his return from his lunch at 12:37 PM, almost one hour-forty minutes later.
That’s a long lunch break! Only one person working there? Friggin nuts and not fair to the customers waiting outside in this hot weather. Totally unacceptable! Hammer needs to come down on someone!
The Post Office is losing millions of dollars each year. Not good to leave customers waiting…
