On June 2, 2019, while on full uniform patrol in marked unit West 5, I, Officer Marika DuVal, along with my partner, Officer Alex Lorenti, were dispatched to a unwanted person at Trina’s Starlight Lounge at 3 Beacon Street. Lt. Jeff DiGregorio responded as back up.
Upon arrival, we were met by a male party, later identified as Anthony Cozzolino. Mr. Cozzolino stated that he was the person that we were there to see and that the staff wanted him to leave. The staff of Trina’s Starlight Lounge were outside and confirmed that Mr. Cozzolino was told he needed to leave.
I told Mr. Cozzolino that the staff in the restaurant did not want him inside and to go home. Mr. Cozzolino then became combative and started confronting the restaurant staff. I told him again that he needed to go home. It was at this point that Mr. Cozzolino started getting louder and his tone became more aggressive and threatening, drawing attention from patrons and staff members. I observed motor vehicles stopping and slowing down to see the disturbance. Neighbors and pedestrians were also starting to gather around the restaurant due to Mr. Cozzolino’s actions and statements.
I then told Mr. Cozzolino that he was going to be placed under arrest for Disorderly Conduct. Mr. Cozzolino refused to place his hands behind his back and began to fight myself, Ofc. Lorenti and Lt. DiGregorio. Mr. Cozzolino grabbed Lt. DiGregorio’s wrist and shoved his arm away from his direction.
I again told Mr. Cozzolino that he was under arrest and to stop resisting. I requested an additional unit to assist with the arrest. Mr. Cozzolino continued to resist our attempts to handcuff him by pushing us away, ignoring our requests to place his hands behind his back, and pushed me into the brick wall of the restaurant. He continued to resist until he was placed into handcuffs in the front of his body. It was at this point that Mr. Cozzolino stopped trying to resist.
I placed Mr. Cozzolino under arrest for the following charges:
-A&B on a Police Officer
Mr. Cozzolino was transported in Unit #200 operated by Officer Joe Rivera to the Somerville Police Department. Mr. Cozzolino was booked by Sgt. Holland in the usual manner.
Officer M. DuVal #355
