McGrath Boulevard Community Meeting: Update on “Grounding McGrath” Wed. 5/22

Mayor Joseph A. Curtatone and Ward 1, 2, and 3 City Councilors McLaughlin, Scott, and Ewen-Campen, invite you to a community meeting on plans to ground McGrath Boulevard. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 22, at 6:30 p.m., at the East Somerville Community School Auditorium at 50 Cross St.

The preliminary design phase of MassDOT’s McGrath Boulevard Development Project is complete. It includes a corridor concept that would replace the Rte. 28 McCarthy Overpass with a boulevard at street level to support safer pedestrian and cycling routes as well as reconnect the Somerville neighborhoods separated by Route 28. The conceptual design includes two lanes for automobile travel in each direction, wide sidewalks, and landscaping including a large number of trees as well as specialized lanes, signals, and intersection features for cyclists.

Although construction funding for the project will not be available until 2026, community participation during this planning phase is important for helping to ensure the community’s goals for the corridor are realized. City staff from the Transportation and Infrastructure Division, as well as MassDOT staff, will be on hand to provide a status update and answer questions. 1. I ask myself could this city get any worse with pretentious bikers and yuppies.. “we need more bike lanes!” McGrath “highway” is just fine. But the cars blah blah blah. You know what taking lanes away does. Puts more cars in stop and go traffic. Kinda counterintuitive no? Oh but who cares. In 15 years this city will be owned by kendal sq elitists from cambridge. Good job Curtatone!

  2. And will the city also find a place for the homeless that use this as one the last few places where they can find shelter here? Or will they be ignored like the 4 time wounded vet that asked for help from Joe?.
