Somerville Speakup Line:Troubles Brewing In Somerville High School

Dear Billy T and Somerville Speakup Line,

I do NOT want my name or my kids names published whatsoever. The hate is too real. Shit’s about to go down at SHS tomorrow because these kids were having fun with there prom-posal and made the mistake of posting it on Instagram.

People are now Tweeting, FB & resharing on IG and it’s scary to see what’s being said by their peers. They’re being bullied and have had physical threats made against them.

The school is aware but no one does anything. They’re allowed to spew hate and intolerance constantly and no one can say boo because they’re “racists”. Enough is enough.

You have to do something Billy. These kids and anyone who sticks up for them are being attacked. There’s too much hate and ignorance and something bad is going to happen.

  1. I and my wife are so glad we didn’t send our children to Somerville high. This is a prime example why “ A MIND IS A TERRIBLE THING TO WASTE!” We’re spending $300 million on This!!! A new high school. For what?

    1. I graduated with a group of people as the class of 1976. In this group alone we went forward to become teachers, librarians, hold PHD’s in technology and work for the Federal Goverment, we are Doctor’s and nurses, mother’s and father’s, social workers, athletes, laborers, business executives, chefs, lawyers, child care workers, plumbers, mechanics and more. We have served our country, serve in our communities, raised our children, we are not perfect. We have survived illness and tragedy and our Somerville grit helps carry us. I will tell you this though, there are many of us, like me that flourished under the guidence of terrific teachers at SHS and will be forever greatful.
Somerville High built my confidence and helped me discover my own gifts. I will never, ever regret my time at SHS.

    2. But you still live in Somerville tho? So it shows that hey you appreciate the diversity that we bring into the city but you don’t want your kids to be around us which shows how truly pathetic you really are to be honest. Here’s a reality check for you even try to bash us make sure you get educated first. Check the Somerville high POC statistics if you’re really trying to say something that’s actually factual.

    3. on behalf of all the wonderful, caring, intellectually thriving minds of the somerville high school student body, i would just like to say we are also very glad you did not decide to send your children to somerville high school. you are a prime example of the issue at hand. your ignorance to the problems being discussed in the above article invalidates your concerns towards us as a student body. you want to know what you’re spending $300 million on? that money is going to a new high school that will house the next generation of free thinkers who aren’t afraid to stand in the face of hatred and fight for their right to feel safe in their learning environment. we are not minds going to waste, we are the future.

    4. I am extremely glad I sent all three of my children to Somerville High – Two college graduates and one welder. They had a great experience and have an amazing group of friends. Thank you Somerville High School!

  2. PS As far as for what? To recieve the skills and training in preperation for the next phase of their lives. Teachers are so under valued and do so much.

  3. Well, if you post something that you are “proud of” just know that not everyone has the same views as you do and criticism is inevitable.

  4. The girl and her BF posted the photo knowing that we are a majority minority school, we are children of immigrants, we are undocumented, Muslims, women, lgbtq+, black people, latinx. She knew that it would make people angry. It’s politics to you but to us it’s our lives, that’s the difference. Supporting Trump is supporting bigotry. If you want attention this is not the way to get it.

  5. I go to shs y’all talking out your asses and most of y’all are white. Fuck trump and we all got the freedom of speech.

  6. I have read your comments, I ask this question why is Somerville high ranked 234th in the state of Massachusetts compared to all other high schools. You can’t put a shine on a pair of sneakers.
