Meet this week’s “Special Person of the Week:George Dervishian
We congratulate Officer George Dervishian as he concludes his last shift this past week. George was appointed on September 13, 1979 and after 39 years of service to the City of Somerville, he starts a new chapter in his life.
Lt. Lavey writes:
George always treated citizens and peers with respect and kindness, and he has worked many different positions within the police department. He will take with him a lot of experience. Separation from police duty is a significant event. We all say we are looking forward to retirement, but when you spend as much time at work as you do with your family, it becomes apparent that this profession is unique in that you have two families.
Congrats George, we wish you good health and happiness in your retirement!

Somerville Police Officer George Dervishian’s children wrote:
Our dad George Dervishian is retiring from the Somerville Police Department after over 40 years of service. Although he worked a lot, there was never a doubt that he wouldn’t do anything for his kids.
From diapers to college or anything else we wanted or needed…he was always there to guide and support us. The amount of love and passion he had being a police officer truly proves to me that there are good people in the world. The amount of dedication he has put into this career truly inspires me.
He never expects a thank you & he’s known not to show a lot of emotion, but his family has never had a doubt how much he loved them. He turns 65 on Jan. 17th and we would love to have him know that we thank him so much and we appreciate everything he’s done for us. Hopefully now he’ll be able to relax and enjoy life!
Thank you!
