Traffic Light Changes in ‪Davis Square‬ Somerville

A consistent piece of feedback about Davis Square is the traffic-light system is frustrating for everyone. It can take up to six minutes for pedestrians to legally cross the main intersection at walk signals. It’s no surprise more than 75 percent of pedestrians jaywalk! As a result, we’ll be making some changes to signal timing and sequencing in an effort to improve things. Cars and MBTA buses will get more “green time,” and pedestrians will get more walk signals. This work is expected to take place the mornings of June 23, from 8 a.m. to noon, and June 27, from 10 a.m. to noon, and it will include signal outages in Davis Square. We’re advising people to avoid driving through the square at those times. We appreciate your patience as we follow through on this project.
