BOSTON – The Massachusetts Senate passed a three-year, $600 million investment of “Chapter 90” funding for local road and bridge repairs, continuing the legislature’s strong commitment to supporting our cities and towns.

The legislation authorizes $200 million each year for the next three years for infrastructure improvements in municipalities across the Commonwealth. This multi-year investment provides cities and towns with the ability to plan their construction needs in advance, giving communities access to predictable and consistent funding.

“The Chapter 90 program plays a crucial role in funding sorely needed local road and bridge repairs across the Commonwealth,” said Senator Pat Jehlen (D-Somerville). “We need to do more to maintain and improve our infrastructure, but this is an important step.”

“Chapter 90” funds are allocated using a longstanding formula based on community road miles, population and employment. The expected FY2019 apportionment to Somerville is $1,158,434.

The bill will now be reconciled with a version passed by the House of Representatives, before moving to the Governor for final approval.
