On Tuesday, March 27, 2018 while on full patrol uniform, assigned to cruiser 781, I (Officer Edna DaCosta) and my partner (Patrick Canty) were dispatched to xx Moreland St. for an Assault with a Dangerous Weapon call. While in route dispatch informed us that the victim stated that Jonathan Machado had pulled a gun on him. Upon arrival, we met with the victim identified as XXXX. Mr. XXXX stated that as he was pulling up to his residence, there were two vehicles, a Mazda SUV and a Honda CRV, both silver, blocking the driveway. One car was inside the driveway facing the street, and the other was facing the driveway.
Mr. XXXX asked the drivers to move the vehicles. Upon Mr. XXXX request, the driver of the Mazda got out of the car and pointed a gun at him. He was afraid and ran up the stairs to go inside the house. Mr. XXXX stated that he is familiar with the group of males that were in the vehicles because they are friends of his neighbor (YYYY). Mr. XXXX stated that the group is constantly at the property conducting what he believes are drug transactions. When asked specifically how Mr. XXXX recognized the male who pulled the gun as Jonathan Machado, he stated from a news article where Machado had stabbed someone. Mr. XXXX had previously googled Machado because he has been hanging around the residence. Mr. XXXX stated that the two cars fled the scene down Moreland St. toward Mystic Ave.
We then spoke with ZZZZ, who stated he saw the group of males confronting Mr. XXXX. Mr. ZZZZ identified one of the males as his son AAAA., and stated he recognized BBBB and Jonathan Machado as part of the group. He was unable to identify the other three members involved in the confrontation. Mr. ZZZZ believed Jonathan Machado was the aggressor. Mr. ZZZZ told the group to leave Mr. XXXX alone.
When asked Mr. XXXX if he was able to identify the weapon, he stated that it was a silver handgun. Mr. XXXX stated that Machado pulled the gun out of the inside upper pocket of his jacket and pointed it at him. Mr. XXXX was too afraid, and could only recognize that it was a silver handgun.
We put out a bolo for both vehicles, and Detective Cassandra Goncalves, who had noted a plate number, xxxxx, for a Honda CRV that was seen earlier at the residence. We were able to get the plate for the silver Mazda with a New York tag, xxxx. We advised Mr. XXXX to contact us if the group returned.
We were later notified by Everett Police that they had MA tag xxxx and KY tag xxxx stopped and one of the occupants was Jonathan Machado. Upon further investigation we learned BBBB and AAAA were also on scene. Based on probable cause from our earlier incident we asked Everett Police to place Jonathan Machado under arrest. Machado was transported to Somerville Police Department by Officer Justin Brown in marked transport unit 200, and booked in the usual manner by the Commander Lt. Rich Lavey.
I would like to note that during the incident in Everett, Everett Police arrested other occupants of the vehicles where narcotics and money were seized. Although no firearms were retrieved, the vehicle in which Machado was operating was a different rental vehicle than the one from our earlier incident on Moreland Street.
