Somerville uses a data-driven approach to roadway maintenance to save taxpayers as much money as possible. Every $1 spent on regular maintenance avoids between $6 and $14 on expensive rebuilding projects. Though Somerville is only 4.1 square miles in size, it has enough roadway to drive to Worcester and back. During the 2018 construction season, Somerville will repave, seal, or patch more than 60 sections of roadway.
