Real Life Somerville Police Stories:Carlos CARRION (Package Theft)

On Tuesday September 12, 2017 at approximately 1320, I Officer Randy Isaacs along with Officer Soares was dispatched to the area of XX Calvin St, Somerville for a report of a person stealing packages from the front porch. While en route, dispatch informed us that the person is described as an Asian looking male, wearing blue V-neck t-shirt, dark colored sweat pants, carrying a cloth backpack and riding a bicycle. Dispatch also informed us that the reporting person also stated that the suspect was riding down Calvin St towards Washington St.

As Officers arrived in the area, Officer Soares noticed a suspect matching the clothing description going behind the building of 374 Washington St. At that time Officer Soares called in his location. As I arrived, Officer Soares was behind the building with the suspect who was placing all new articles of clothing in an empty trash can and also had other new articles of clothing that he had placed in another trash can. Next to the suspect were also opened Amazon boxes, which did not belong to the suspect, who was then identified as Mr. Carlos Carrion.

On Mr. Carrion’s bicycle was a brown paper bag on the handle with a bottle of wine, numerous baby clothes, a Tile Mate, Amazer bike lock, and a Birchbox belonging to XXXXX of XX Calvin St. Mr. Carrion also had other articles of clothing that were taken from XX Calvin St in his possession. Mr. Carrion also had a brand new, unsigned Visa credit card with the name YYYYY. Mr. Carrion then stated that the bicycle was not his and that he found it, however, in the hand of Mr. Carrion was a key, clinched in his fist. After receiving the key from Mr. Carrion, the key belonged to a lock on the bicycle that Mr. Carrion was riding.

Mr. Carrion was then placed under arrest and charged with Larceny From Building, MGL Ch 266 sec. 20, Receiving Stolen Property +$250, MGL Ch. 266 sec. 60, and Larceny Over $250, MGL Ch 266, sec.30. Mobile Detention, Unit 200 was dispatched and Mr. Carrion was transported to the Somerville Police Station where he is booked and process by Lieutenant Rymill.

After Mr. Carrion was transported back to the station, I went to the previous address where the initial call had originated. On the front porch of XX Calvin St was an Amazon box that had been opened, emptied and placed upside down as to make it appear that it was still closed. On the front porch of XX Calvin St were two Amazon boxed that were opened, half emptied, and stacked one on top of each other as though they were not empty. Also, on the porch of XX Calvin St was a manila envelope that was ripped open. All items were taken back to the Somerville Police Department to be labeled and place into evidence.

Respectfully Submitted

Officer Randy Isaacs
