Somerville News Weekly’s Special Person of the Week:NANCY ROSS AYLWARD

By Frank Santangelo

Meet this week’s “Special Person of the Week:Nancy Aylward

Over the last 27 years, most of you have no doubt had the pleasure of meeting, working with, being assisted by, or simply speaking with Nancy Aylward during her long tenure with the City of Somerville.
Unfortunately for the City of Somerville Nancy has retired as of July 14. Though this is a very well deserved occasion for Nancy, her absence will be felt throughout Somerville City Hall as well as throughout the city and especially in the mayor’s office and in the daily operations of the present administration.

Nancy began working for the City of Somerville in 1990, under Mayor Capuano’s administration, working within the Housing Division.
Many Somerville residents and co-workers had the pleasure and privilege of dealing and/or working with Nancy on many occasions regarding constituent requests, and everyone that had the opportunity to deal with Nancy was always struck at how compassionate, sincere, and customer-service oriented she was in every situation.
Nancy did everything in her power to assist constituents, whether or not the matter at hand fell under her job description.
In 2004 Nancy was invited to join the present administration’s team in the Mayor’s Office. Nancy graciously accepted the offer, and the mayor and adminerstration will forever be grateful that she did. She is unheralded in the number of people she has helped over the last 27 years. The phrase, “Just call Nancy, she’ll get it done for you,” is a common one around the Somerville corner office and the City in general, and she came through every single time.

At one time or another, we’re sure that most of you have experienced her generosity firsthand, whether it be advice on a project or program, her willingness to volunteer and go above and beyond in solving problems and helping constituents, or the countless times she has lent an ear to anyone in need. Nancy’s work, dedication, and support is unsurpassed and will be deeply missed.

In the coming weeks as the present administration works to fill her position, you may still see Nancy around City Hall as she works with them through this transition.
Nancy, congratulations on this milestone, and we truly wish you all the very best from all of us at the Somerville News Weekly!

Our hats are off to her true Somerville spirit!

We here at the Somerville News Weekly salute you for everything that you do to make Somerville a better place.
Congratulations!
